I was working on a group project where we were learning about the community and met this gentleman named Franklin. He came to California in the 90s and was a contractor, but after various ailments, wasn’t able to work anymore. The state determined that he wasn’t permitted to get disability because they felt he was still healthy. However, he wasn’t able to work anymore (because he is legitimately disabled), so he ended up living out of his van and has been doing so since the early 2000s. We met him at Alondra Park, where he goes to take long walks to exercise his legs.
